Sustainability

The Crick takes a holistic view of sustainability. Sustainability is about reducing our impact on the environment through all our operations, from making informed decisions when purchasing goods and services to reducing our energy and water consumption to minimising waste and encouraging reuse.

We have a legal and societal duty to proactively manage the environmental risks and impacts of work at the Crick, as well as to reduce our carbon emissions.

Sustainability is broader than our environmental impact and the Crick also has a social responsibility for the wellbeing of our staff and our wider community. We are working to minimise the impact of our travel, improve the sustainability of our supply chains and develop our engagement with our local community.

We are committed to:

1. conducting our business in a sustainable manner,
2. reviewing our processes and procedures to promote environmental sustainability,
3. preventing environmental pollution, and
4. bringing about continuous improvement through our everyday practices.

The Crick has a set of sustainability goals including:

• Embed a culture of sustainable practice within the Crick
• Reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions
• Reduce water consumption
• Promote green product choices
• Gain environmental accreditation

We will achieve these through a number of policies and initiatives, such as Green Impact, and with the help of our 70 volunteer sustainability representatives.
