Introduction

An international PhD programme

The Crick has a multinational outlook, and we are proud to be a diverse, open and international institute, with staff and students from more than 70 different countries. We encourage students of all nationalities to apply for the programme.

What we offer 

We offer successful applicants a place on the Crick PhD programme, and a PhD studentship that covers:

  • £22,000 tax-free student stipend (living allowance) per year for four years
  • Tuition fees
  • If applicable, reimbursement of the student visa application fee and immigration health surcharge

Eligibility & academic entry criteria

Candidates of all nationalities can apply for the Crick PhD programme and studentship.

The standard Crick PhD programme and studentship academic eligibility criteria are:

  • A first/upper second-class honours degree (or equivalent from a non-UK university) in a relevant subject.
  • Appropriate research experience as part of, or outside of, a university degree course, or a master's degree in a relevant subject.

English skills

Applicants do not need to submit information relating to English language skills during the application process. If you are offered a Crick PhD studentship we will provide you with information on our English language requirements.

Key information

  • Your application must be submitted by the deadline: 12 noon (GMT), Thursday 11 November 2021. 
  • We will not accept late applications. 
  • We should receive your references by Thursday 18 November 2021. Your application may still be considered if references are not received by this deadline. However, no applicant will be invited to interview unless references have been received.
  • We will notify you of the outcome of your application by Friday 31 December 2021. 

After the reference deadline, your application will be available to the following people:

  • members of the Crick’s Academic Training team (junior researchers) for the purposes of checking eligibility;
  • all of the recruiting Crick group leaders (and, where relevant, co-supervisors from our university partners) and also, potentially, relevant members of their groups for the purposes of shortlisting.
