Sila Ultanir

Sila obtained a BS in Molecular Biology and Genetics from Bilkent University, Ankara, Turkey. She then studied neuronal development and synaptogenesis using live-imaging methods in Dr Rafael Yuste's laboratory at Columbia University, New York, USA, where she obtained her PhD.
Sila moved to University of California, San Diego, for her first postdoctoral position in Dr Anirvan Ghosh's lab. There she investigated the role of NMDA (N-Methyl-D-aspartate) receptors on dendrite and spine development using knockout mice and electrophysiology. Sila then joined Dr Yuh-Nung Jan's laboratory at University of California, San Francisco where she studied kinase signalling mechanisms on dendrite development using chemical genetic methods in collaboration with Dr Kevan Shokat's laboratory.
She became a group leader in the Developmental Neurobiology Division of the Medical Research Council National Institute for Medical Research in 2013 and is now a group leader at the Francis Crick Institute.
